Child labor, Awareness on 'Child labor', Children's rights, 'Street children' problems

You grow up, when you learn to cycle without side-wheels,
when you finish your homework by yourself,
when you carry a pot of water home for the first time,
when it's your third night without a proper meal,
you grow up.

After 65 years and all of independence we are left discussing basic facets that a child should not be made to work.

In July 2016, our government passed an amendment to the child labor prohibition and regulation act of 1986.

The amendment proposed three major changes.
The definition of a child has been changed from one below the age of 18 to one below 14.
A child below 14 will not be allowed to work in any industry except when it is a family enterprise.
The list of industries that are considered harmful for an individual aged 14 to 18 years.

If you look at the history of 1986 with the first act, each time a new industry was added, it was done with a lot of thought.
There was rational- "why is this being added?" etc.
Now in one time you've removed everything and kept some like mining and some other random kind of things, there is absolutely no thought.
So it's very clear that you just want to avoid all kind of accountability.

In our entire country, if we see, most of the working children are working in the agricultural sector.
And secondly, in family enterprises, they have written 'any business'.

If some family is running a liquor business in their home then this becomes a family enterprise.
So will we allow children to work in that?

kids anyway work with their family, regardless.
In last 20 years we have seen, in shops during the vacation the children will work.
During harvest season the kids work in the fields.
During sowing season the kids work in the fields
So management has been on all these years.

But when it is specified it is specified it is only open to misuse.
Because then it becomes, see anyway it was happening and kids were balancing, right?
And when there were kids working in other areas we could go fight, saying the law.

The government passes every amendment from it's side and it has many loopholes.
For instance, the Child Labor Act has been present for so many years.

Even then in today's time child labor exists in large amount, in every corner of India child labor exists.

So passing an amendment and implementing it are two different things, its effect should reach the children,
the children should receive the benefit from it.
But today that benefit is not received by the children at all.
It is fact that the amendment exists only in the city, not in the villages.
Kids are working in the villages, who will supervise in the village? who will come and see?

We are not able to sustain children in our education system.
The most important reason is that there is no quality of education.
there are a lot of laws regarding right to education, if it is followed, all the kids in the area will get educated.
but it is not been followed.

The lack of through education system is pushing children out of classrooms and into cotton fields as a labor.

Children constitute a major part of workforce for the Bt cotton industry.
They are engaged in manual labor in 3 stages of cotton production.
First, the flowers are cross pollinated by hand.
Once the fruit ripens, the cotton pod opens, the cotton is then plucked and collected.
The collected cotton is sent to the mills for ginning.
During this process, the children work around heavy machinery and often injure themselves or even lose their hands.

There is theory of nimble fingers, while we talk of child labor.
Bt cotton stands for Bacillus Thuringiensis that is the name of the bacteria, which biotechnologically modifies the cotton seeds.
While cross pollination, these nimble fingers are very useful and they do not damage the finish product that is the seeds which produce
the better crop of cotton.
Because of all these reasons that they prefer to employ children in the fields.
A child condition is much worse when they work in the field.

What is the punishment of murdering someone twice?
Once, by putting the little ones where they don't belong and second, by subjecting them to activities, that gradually prove fatal.
I believe that poverty does not cause child labor.
many people are arguing that we send the children to work because we are poor.
I believe that, the children work that's why our society is poor.

When was the last time you saw a child working?
When was the last time you did something about it?

Imagine, being quit, with so much more to tell, Imagine being invisible, and wanting to ask for help.

What do we do now? What is the way to go ahead? or are we just accepting that this is the way children above 14 are going to be.
Children are the future of every nation.

If you had a heart,
    You'd hear a voice,
and Stop child labor.

218 million children aged 5-17 are involved in child labor worldwide.
Education is crucial to breaking the cycle of poverty.
